Purpose of the guideline: Although the incidence of chronic pancreatitis in children remains low, it is growing rapidly and is now comparable to acute pancreatitis and acute recurrent pancreatitis. Unlike in adults, genetic and obstructive etiologies are more common in children with chronic pancreatitis. Chronic pain, endocrine, and/or exocrine insufficiency caused by chronic pancreatitis have severely affected children's health and led to an overall impaired quality of life. There is a lack of specific guidelines to guide the management of children with chronic pancreatitis, relying on adult literature and cystic fibrosis guidelines to guide treatment. However, critical aspects of management, such as nutrition, pain management, lifestyle modification, and monitoring prognosis, appear to be different from these populations, and further guidance is needed for the diagnosis and management of chronic pancreatitis in children.
