| Purpose of the guideline: | Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a highly transmissible respiratory disease that is caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis (B. pertussis). Due to immunity attenuation and B. pertussis mutations after vaccination, pertussis resurgence has been reported in many developed countries with high vaccination rates. In the vaccine era, the burden of pertussis has shifted from infants to adolescents and adults in many developed countries, and they became the main source of infection for infants. According to the law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, pertussis is classified as a Class B infectious disease. Over the past decade, pertussis resurgence in China has attracted attention. Pertussis cases reported in China are still dominated by infant cases, and the bacterial isolates are generally resistant to macrolide antibiotics, which are different epidemiology from other countries and make some troubles for clinical management. In order to further standardize the clinical diagnosis and treatment of pertussis, this diagnosis and treatment plan was formulated based on the research progress and clinical experience at home and abroad. |
